The Bishop thinks highly of Jephson's play [possibly The law of Lombardy]. He writes of having heard Jephson read his prologue to Macbeth which was to be performed privately in Phoenix Park, Dublin. He wants Sir Joshua Reynolds to finish his portrait of Garrick for him, Barnard.

Robert Jephson (1736-1803), playwright and parodist, was born in Dublin. His first play, Braganza, was performed in 1775, with an epilogue by Horace Walpole.
